REPORTS OF COMMITTEES. The fortnightly meeting of tho City Council was held last overling, and was attended by t.hc Mayor (Sir. T. M. AVilford, M.P.), Councillors Luko, Cohen, Ballinger, Frost, Trevor, Atkinson, Devine, Fitzgerald, Hindmarsh, Shirtcliffe, Fletcher, aaid Morrah. FINANCE AND PROPERTY. The Finance and Property Committee recommended That Mrs. Howe, lessee of the Island Bay Waiting Rooms, be granted a rejiewal of her lease for two years, on the same conditions unit rental. That the costs in the Wingfield Street alignment cases he remitted where the property owners set back their fences. That tho council permit the projection of Messrs. Seaton be appointed as the council's assessor in ths matter. Councillor Fletcher moved, and .Councillor Fitzgerald seconded, a motion to refer back to the committco the clause referring to the charge for water to tho Harbour Boiird. On the recommendation of the Power Stations and Tramways Committee, it was agreed that tho offer of the General Electric Company to supply a new alternator at 750 kilowatts capacity (in place of the on© of 500 kilowatts recently damaged) for ,£IOOO f.o.b. New York, bo accepted. On tho recommendation of tho Reserves Committee, tho application of the Wellington Art Club for tho services of the superintendent of reserves in laying out their grounds at Bowen Street was declined. FIRE BRIGADES AND LIGHTING. Tho By-laws, Firo Brigade, and StreetLighting Committee recommended :— That applications for lamps at tho following streets bo not granted:—Buckley Street, Vogeltown; track from Mount Street to Victoria College. That a lamp bo crected at Regent Street, Newtown, at an estimated cost of m That a lamp in Wellington Road, Ivilbirnie, bo shifted to Tainui Terrace, opposite the Maranui School. That the application of tho carriers who stand at tho reserve at tho intersection of Taranaki Street and Courtonay Place for periiiission to erect a telephone on a telepuono post bo granted, provided tho box is fixed in a position to the satisfaction of the City Engineer. . _ That the application of the Rcichel Automatic Fire Alarm Company, Ltd., for permission to connect their firo alarm installations to the street firo alarm system at Salamanca Road, be granted, on certain, conditions. Tho report was adopted. OUTLYING DISTRICTS. The Outlying Districts Committee recommended:— > That the request of the Hataitai Municipal Electors' Association, for tho erection of a horso trough at tho top of Moxham Aveuuo, near Waitoa Road, bo ■acceded to, the cost not to exceed £10; and tho position to be fixed by the City Engineer. ; . . That the counoil authorise the City Engineer to construct wooden stops between Crawford Road and Tully Street, at a cost not exceeding .€3O. The recommendations wore approved. BAD DRAINAGE. A deputation from property-owners in Elizabeth Street complained of insufficient drainage in that locality. •. The trouble was caused by ground springs from the Town Belt. Tho City Engineer stated that notices had bMn served on tho owners, calling on them to provide drainago facilities. When no responso Tras m'ado, the City Council ,did tho work, and called upon the owners for the cost. Councillor Trevor urged that tho work should have been dono at the expenso of the council. The matter will be further considered.
