In the League match between the English Northern Union team nnd tho Metropolitan team the latter put up a good defence, at one stage of the game the .SCOW 6 boiiig: England, JG; Metropolitan, 15. Messenger played splendidly for Metropolitan, his kicking being a feature of tho game. He landed a penalty goal and converted four times. The closing stages of the game were marked with very rough play, ending in a melee among tile players. Tho final scores were: England, 31; Metropolitan, 25. . MESSENGER WAS STRUCK. The failure of the umpiro to order Kcrshnw off caused a hostile demonstration by the crowd, and several encounters occurred. Eventually an Englishman and an Australian were ordered oil.
