MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.

LECTURE AND CONCERT. The sailors who enjoy the breezy concerts, games, and competitions of the Mission to Seamen were the guests last evening of Dr. and Mrs. Findlav, in the Mission Hall. Dr. and Mrs. Findlay had prepared a capital programme of n varied nature, of which the principal items were an address by Mr. Robert Sl'Nab on the old whaling days in Now Zealand, ami mainly humorous, by Dr. Findlay on (he engaging subject "Hats." Both speakers had a most en-' thusiastic reception. Mr. M'Nab reminded his hearers that Wellington was tho centro of a large trade in the 'thirties, and Cloudy Bay from 1830 to 1830 was.one of the greatest whaling ports of the world. There were thirteen American whaling ships in Cloudy Bay at once. He told the story of the kidnapping expedition of the brig Elizabeth to Akaroa, and gave some other records of the rough old whaling days. The following visitors contributed to the musical programme:—Songs, Miss Hooper. Dr. Hales, Messrs. Hoscett. and. Dale; recitation, Miss Pawoe; dialogue, Misses Pascoe. Miss L D'Oyly was at the piano. At the request of Mr. J. Moore, missioiicr, (.ho IoTRc fliulicncp of spmnon pn vo a series of choruwp, which they rendered with stentorian lungs. Afterwords, in response to a request to "sing falsetto, or like ladies," a seeming majority of tho« present who possessed this novel necom■plishment gave a remarkable ilisplay of their powers. Finally the most, hearty cheers wero giveii for tho entertainers, and the proceedings ended with refreshments, and tho singing of the temperance pledge by a mmbcr of the °ramen after a brief exhortation by Mr. Moore.
