PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(From Onr Special Correspondent.) Paimerston North, June 15. At the monthly meeting of the Terrace End School Committee last night, a letter was rend from the Wanganui Education Board to the effect that the Minister for Education was favourable to making a grant towards enlarging the school. Tho visiting committeo reported that everything was satisfactory at the school, except for the want of room, the work being carried on under great difficulties in this respect. The headmaster, Mr. F. Fan-brother, reported there were 401 names on the roll, the average attendance being 314, and the highest 30G. Mr. Strong, the inspector, had recommended that auy attempt at beautifying the school grounds should be confined to the front of the section. The matter of taking part in the Arbor Day celebrations was loft in the hands'of the chairman. A horse in a hansom cab got beyond control yesterday, and bolted -along Main Street West. The cab was capsized, and a good deal damaged, whilst the driver, who was thrown out of his seat, was injured. A passenger in the cab escaped practically unhurt. Preparations for the celebration of Arbor Day are proceeding by tho erection of triangles in several streets for the protection of trees that are to be planted on that day. The wisdom of planting trees on botli sides of narrow streets is questioned;
