EXTRAORDINARY.
A YOUNG MAN WHO HAD NEVER BEEN TO SCHOOL. (By TcleeraDh-Press Association.! ■ Christchurch, June 15. An extraordinary case of illiteracy recently came under tho notice of Mr. H. W. Bishop, S.M. A young man of 21, when required to. sign some depositions, pleaded that ho could neither read nor .write, and his statement was corroborated by his wife. Inquiries elicited that the young man was born and brought up in Lyttelton, but be had never gone to school and this omission had never been noticed. His parents had never scut him .to school, and as far as ho knew there had never been any inquiry about him. Ho went to work when he was twelve years old, and reached man's estate without being able even to sign his naine.3lr. Bishop remarked that the case was unique in his experience.
