MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. (Prom Our Special CorroaDoadent.l At the monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council on Tuesday afternoon there were present: Councillors \V. S. Welsh (chairman), Colquhoun, Miller, i'oremau, Murray, Kebbell, Toogood, and Beetham. An application from Mr. F. A. Sheath for a relaxation of the heavy traffic bylaws, to enable him to. remove some old. buildings from Maugamaboe to Tinui was not entertained. It was notified by Messrs. Gawith and Logan, solicitors, that further action in regard to the closing, of Pilmer's Koad was suspended for the present. In answer to a letter irom the Mayor of Masterton, asking what steps had been taken by the council in reference to the re-erection of the new bridges over the Waipawa Kiver, the chairman said the council had matte application for tho i-'ISOOIi required for the work, but had not yet received a .reply from the authorities—lt was decided to advise the Mayor accordingly. It was resolved to hire the borough roller for two days to do work between Mr. Macara's boundary and Buick's cutting. The treasurer reported receipts sinco May 10 amounting to .£2-15 ss. sd. Accounts amounting to ,£I7OB Gs. 3d. were passed for payment. Tho draft of the agreement prepared by the Akitio County Council with reference to the expenditure of the proportion of general rates arising from certain properties in that county, the traffic from -ivhch passes over reads in the county of Masterton, was laid before the Finance Committee. Councillor Murray pointed out the omission, from the agreement of certain sections which he was of opinion should contribute to the upkeep of the Waihuki. and Alfrcdton-Weber Roads in the Masterton County, and he moved: "That as the draft agreement does not appeni- to include Sections ! and 5 (HigRinson), 22 and II (Itobhie Brothers), and Section i) and part Section 10 (If, S. Bobbie), all in Block's, Aohnnga Survey District, the traffic from which must also pas over Ihe roads in the County of itostei-loii, and the rates from which should in tho opinion of this committee be set about for the upkeep of tho?o roads, the committee recommends that the agreement be returned to the Akitio County Council with a suggestion that it be amended by the inclusion of the sections mentioned." The motion was seconded by (he chairman and carried.
