BILLIARDS.
. ♦ . BOBERTS AND LINDRUM TO MEET. According to tho Sydney "Referee," two big games have been almost fixed up between John Roberts and Lindrum. The .points will be 18,000 in each game, the first of which will tako place in Melbourne throe weeks hence, after which Sydney will bo the locale. A very light set of bonzoline balls which Roberts has .with him will bo used,' and as the Australian champion, is to receive 3000 start in each 16,000 he should keep the old warhorso moving; in fact, there are many who think that tho youth would defeat the veteran level—a feat which no modern player has accomplished on a , standard table. We cannot say that we ■ are of their opinion, much as wo admire tho young champion's skill. ; /ROBERTS DOWNS MEMMOTT. As wag generally predicted, says tho "Referee," the start allotted Memmott in his game with Roberts proved altogether inadequate, more especially as the Australian had to endeavour to make tho /'ivory angle" after a break of ' many "years. Roberts's play was as bright and crisp as of yore. He" may be a trifle less certain in the long shots and , hazards, but in other respects ho is just :aa brilliant and clever as he was in the heyday of his career, nnd stands to-day ; with few, if any, compeers as an executant, while in elegance and grace he :1s out by himself. Following was the liesult:—Roberts, 18,000; Memmott (rctpeived 5200), 10,766.
