NORTHLAND WATER SUPPLY.

DELATED CONNECTIONS. At the meeting of the Finance Committee of the City Council yesterday the city engineer (Dr. W. Morton) submitted a report on the delay in connecting up to the Northland water supply by the residents of that district. "It seems to me," he wrote, ."that the people of the district are content for the present with their present supply. The result will be that at the beginning of next summer requests will come in at such a rate that it will be impossible to comply with their requirements in addition to making the necessary connections throughout the various districts of the city. This work now requires to be done systematically owing to the large area reticulated, and it is impossible, for mains to be tapped in each of tho outlying districts oftener than once a .week. I have to recommend that the attention of the Northland residents and owners be called to this matter with a view to inducing them to connect at the earliest possible moment. In addition to the above, at present the water remains too long in the mains, the consequence being that an unnecessary amount of flushing has to be done in order that the supply to the houses already connected may 'be satisfactory. This is expensive, owing to the cost of raising water to the necessary level."
