HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) — ♦ NEW AMBULANCE WAGON. Mr. J. W. M'Ewan presided at the Ambulance Wagon Fund Committee's meeting last night. The recommendation of the contractor (Mr. Cronin) and the supervisor (Mr. Johnson) with reference to the building of the wagon was accepted. It .will be constructed so as to accommodate two patients, and provision made for a third if necessary. Mr. Smith was appointed assistant secretary. U.A.O.D. PETONE. The Lodge held their ordinary meeting on Monday night. The auditors' i'oport, : which showed the Lodge to be in a sound financial position, was adopted. Eulogistic remarks in. regard to-the secretary were made by the auditors. One new member was admitted, one initiated on clearanco, and another proposal was received. The following officers were insta«ri:— J.P.A., Bro. Gray; A.D., Br. Devine; V.A., Bro. Ridge; A.D.B's.; Bros. AVhite and Hart; V.A.B's., Bros. -Woolford and List; 0.G., Bro. Gough; 1.G., Bro. Shaw; secretary, Bro. Wynyard; treasurer, Bro. Davis; M.S., Bro. Brownhill. The anniversary social in connection with the Lodge will bo held on Monday, June 27. PETONE FIRE BOARD. A meeting of the, Potone Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon, there being present: Messrs. J. W. M'Ewan (cliair-i man), Mallard, Mothes, and Short. Mr. M'Ewan was elected chairman for tho ensuing year. It was resolved to ask tho Gear .Company to supply electric current to the station, provided the board, installed tho necessary main. ' The Petone Borough Council is to be asked to accept a loan of .£2OO at 5 per cent, per annum, being the board's first instalment for a new fire station. The iKCond instalment of .£250 will fall due in June, 1911. By that time the board expect to bo able to finance a new fire station for town. The estimates for the year ending June 1910, show tho expenditure to be .£736 Is., less a credit ' balance of ,£OB 17s. 5d., whilst the receipts shown are .£067 3s. 4d., made up as follow:—Government grant, £s(l;' insurance offices, .C3OS lis. Bd.;'and Petone Borough Council, «£3OB lis. Bd. It was decided to present the following officers and men of the brigade with two years' service jbars: Superintendent Lepper. Deputy-Superintendent Ryder, iind Firemen' W. H. Shardlow, H. G. Shardlow, H. Rose, G. H. -Selwood, and H. Turner. A social and dance under the auspices of the Hutt Hibernian Society will, be held in the Lower Hutt Town Hall this evening.
