The Federal-Houldcr-Shiro liner Sussex, which Is due to-day from Liverpool, via Australian ports and Auckland, will berth at King's Wharf. On completion of distel'ton. GKEY BAE DANGEEOUS. A telegram received by the Union Com. pany stated that tho Arahura left Westport for Greymouth at 11 a.m. yesterday. Advice received in the afternoon from Greymouth stated that there was a heavy sea on the bar, and that the Arahura and tho Poherun, were" both outside with littlo hope of crossing inwards yesterday. THE SPECULANT. It transpires that the barancntino Speculant, which arrived in the stream on Sunday cveuing, put in for repairs. She left Port Esperance, Tasmania, on May 25 for Gisborne. On Friday last, when 60 miles off Farewell Spit, a heavy westerly galo with high seas was encountered. The sailer received a severe "dusting." and before the storm abated portion of tho main and foro rigging carried away so tho master decided to make a call at Wellington to have repairs effected. Tjhis morning the Speculant will be brought alongside, and will remain in port for some days till the rigging is replaced. Captain Richards (formerly of tho Dilpussand) is in command of tho vessel.. AEAWA, FKOM LONDON. Soon after daylight yesterday morning the Port Health Officer visited tho Shaw, tiavill, and Albion Company's Arawa, which arrived in the stream from' London on Sunday night. SubseautnUy tho vessel was berthed at No. 1 south Queen's Wharf a.bout 8,30 t a.m. A rep.ort of the voyage chores that tho steamer left London on April 29, and Plymouth the following day. Fine weather with moderate following sea was experienced till reaching Teneriffe on Hay t>. ■ from Tencrilfe to Capo Town the couple of days tho vessel was pitching into a head swell, which hampered her progress considerably. ■ Capo Town was reached on Friday, May 20, and the same evening the voyage was resumed. Immediately the vessel ran into strong winds and rough sea. N and on May 22 the wind freshened to a S.W. gale. Thence onwards a good deal of rough weather was experienced, tho , sky being at times dcnselv overcast, whllo on several days it rainud continuously. ilobart was reached on Juno 8, and departure was taken for Wellington the same evening. On Thursday at 1.30 p.m. very heavy soualls were encountered with torrential "rain, thunder, and lightning, but at 3 p.m. the conditions moderated once more. Very vivid lightning was again witnessed on Saturday night. Tho steamer had Stephen's Island abeam at 5 p.m. j'on Sunday, and reached uort at 8 p.m.

Patterson, chief engineer of tho Maori, is to proceed to England to join one of tho Union Company's new steamers. Mr. J. M. Kissock. who was purser of the Arawa for some considerable time, icft tho vessel in London on sick leave. Tho Kurow was fixed to leave WcstDort yesterday with coal for Lyttclton. A direct run from Lyttelton to Avonmouth Is to bo made by tho Foderal-lloulder-Shire liner Drayton Grange, which sails finally from the southern port on .Saturday next. Altogether 82' passengers are coming to New Zealand by the Union Company's Jiaital, which is duo from Sydney tomorrow. Or this number 49 are travelling saloon and 33 steerage. On Monday next tho Itararoa Is to dock at Lyttelton for cleaning and painting, but she will bo ready to tako her usual running to ■Wellington in the eveninc She will not, however, tako Wellington cargo ai Lyttelton that day. It is expected that tho Wairuna, will leave Wcstport at 2 p.m. to-day with coa! for Wellington. The Waipori is to leavo Wcstport on Thursday, and tho Komata on Friday, both for Wellington.
