INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS. MUSIC-HALLS, GAMBLING, AND THE ■ . WORKER. London, June 12. . The International Thrift Conference is sitting at Edinburgh. ' Mr. John Kidd (a former Minister of the Crown in New South Wales) detailed the history of Australia's old-age pension scheme.. Mr. W. Herbert Phillips (who has been chairman of the South Australian \ Savings Bank) commented on the effect and growth of music-halls in Australia. He said it was always difficult after race meetings to collect the rents ■ of cottages occupied by the working classes. Mr. David Mitchell gavo an address upon tho foundation of the New South Wales Savings Bank.
