MONTHLY MEETING. ' (From Our Special CorrcsDoadent.) The monthly meeting of the Master- : ton A. anoV P. Association Committee ■was held on Saturday afternoon. Thero was a'good attendance. The chair was occupied by Mr. G: C. Summerell (presi- ' dent). : A Welcome Donation. Tho secretary of the Wellington Racing Club' wrote stating that his "club :''had decided to make a vote of £20 to tho association as prize-money for events calculated to improve the breed of horses. The money was not to be exclusively devoted to thoroughbred horses. On the motion of the president, seconded by Mr. T: P. Lett, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Racing Club for its handsome donation. Judges. The secretary-or the. New Zealand Ayrshire Cattle' Breeding Association forwarded a list of judges selected by the association, and asking that .the J'udge of.Ayrshires for the .coming show le appointed from this list. It .was decided to acknowledge receipt of the letter arid advise the association that the matter' would-be considered when judges are being'selected: ■ • Show Dates. The Waikafo Association notified that its annual show Would be held on November 8 and' 9, arid the Wanganui, Association that its show would take place on November 16 and 17. ' Model Stock-marking Appliance. Messrs. Jackson. Bros., forwarded .a ■ model of their patent stock-marking appliance. They pointed out that tho proper model had net. yet. arrived. The. model was left in the room for mspec- . iion by members. ' ■ Cereal Experiments.' A circular letter was. read from Mr: ; G. S. Bayliss, Government field instruc-. tor for.'the North .Island, stating, that • small samples of oats ', and wheat from Sweden and Canada/would be available. '■• for experimenting purposes by farmers during (the coming season. There were also sofne varieties of Australian wheats grown in the Dominion. . Mr. D. M'Gregor, jun., stated that ie had'- last season experimented. with : three different.kinds of wheat,.and ho tad.sent in a report.; Ho'intended putting down a greater area in these wheats: .this season. After some little discussjon, in which .the president expressed the opinion that the experiments being, made wore oi (considerable value to the farming community, a commijttee consisting •' of Messrs; Percy, 'StiAfi and R. J; Dagg was set up to . arrange for the distrihutioh of .available, cereals, for the com-, ing season. .['..... '■': Ground Committee Report.. . .. , The Ground Committee . reported having met that morning. -It had been decided that offers from Dalgety.'and Co. and_ the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. to supply hard--; -wood hurdles be referred'to the-Build-ing Committee. A committee, consist- . ing of Messrs. W. Perry, Summerell, ■end D. M;Gregor,, jun., -had been, ap- . pointed to wait on the Railway Departin reference i::tq... the .proposed railway siding. Good progress was beings madei with' l the ■'arrangements on; the new''showground.'' It'was' decided 1 that tenders, bo called for right 'of, cut-' ting and removing timber, and thatthe grandstand be erected by, day labour. . Mr.] W. Perry - detailed ■ the '-work' that r'was being, done, on., tho .new. grounds. ■'. The. sheepyards were . 'well ahead, the ; agricultural'hall, waa about completed, and a, start was/being made ■with .'the cattleyards. Plans 'had also been .prepared for' the -grandstand. ■ The experiment of' doing the work by day labour' instead of contract had proved successful.• - -,"■;-■ •..:-•.• \-.- In answer to a question by Mr. Lett;'- , it. was stated by-'Mr.' Welch,',, one of: the Ground Committee, that some of 'the old business -stands "had been converted into offices' and press room, but other;.space' v would .be', available. , - '■'■ Finance. The'report, of-the meeting of -the '■Finance Committee was, read., This showed a debit-balance" on Mav 14 of ,; £1122 19s, 6d. The expenditure for the month, was £251 15s. Id., tad the - receipts £104 125.. 6d. Accounts amounting'to £111 4s.' were ,'recom-' . mended for payment. '~ /Annual/Meeting. ' - It was decided that the annual meeting of members be held on Saturday, July 30. :'.-,;••..■'
•;■■' .-'■ Thanks." ■ A cordial vote.,of thanks was;passed' to Messrs. McGregor Bros, for the' free use of'their traction engine for the' removing of buildings from the old 1o the new showground. • . , The president'paid a warm tribute to Messrs. W- Perry, D. M'Gregor,' and W. J. Welch for the good work they .were doing on the new showground. Nobody excepting oho in close touch with matters ciate the amount, of''work that, w ; as being done. Mr. D. M'Gregor, inn., ventured the opinion that when tho grounds .were finished they would be tho most complete in tho Dominion. Retiring Committee. 'Mr.-J. C. M'Eillop moved that one-, third of. the committee .retire, annually, In alphabetical order.; This would save » good deal of time. 'Mr. J. Strang seconded. The president stated' that this resolution would not apply to tho coming election. The rules would require to bo altered. ,-Mr. D. M'Gregor, jun., could not sco that much advantage was to be' derived from the new proposal. Mr. W. Perry pointed out that tho •lection of a committee annually would give members an opportunity of (electing those who were workers. After, further discussion tho motion yas withdrawn. Resignations.. Tho resignations of two. members, vho had left the district, were accepted. Writing under date of April 29 a London. correspondent states: —The New Zealand stand of products at the Darlington Corn Market recently has been very favourably commented upon. Tho display consisted of some excellent .pecimens of grain, a choice collection it tinned fruits, jomo fine samples of iraas and clover so:di, and isreral bottles of trine. Ths Dominion will be rtpretouted both at th« JapanBritish Exhibition and at.the Crystal Palace. The court at the Palace, which has been occupiud by New Zealand since 1905, has, been decorated and rearranged in view of this year's festival. It mu«t riot be forgotten that the chief Now Zealand 1 display will be a t Shepherd's Bush, but for all that the show at the Crystal Palace will be thoroughly representative of the Dominion's trade and Commerce. The High Commissioner has recently presented some specimens of New Zealand timber to the Oldham Museum.
