One of the dangers'of femitle suffrage, said President Tnl't to the delegates of the American National Woman Suffrage Association, was that women as a whole took no interest in (Be matter, and the ballot would therefore be controlled by what he called the less desirable class of women. An outburst of hissing greeted this remark, and the President told the delegates they must show themselves capable trf the suffrage by exercising the degree of restraint necessary in the conduct of Government affairs. At the end of his speech he was loudly applauded, and the women who hissed afterwards scut a letter of apology.
