THE KAISER'S BIBLE.
READ EVERY NIGHT. HE PREDICTS A RELIGIOUS WAVE. ' . By Telegraph-Press Association—Copyrleht Berlin, June 9. The Kaiser recently gave an audience to the pastor of a town in . Germany. His Majesty said lie liked to t read the Bible every night. "It lieff on a table near my bedside," the Kaiser added, "and whenever I have to make a decision I ask myself what the Bible' would teach. : "I am convinced that the present period of dangerous doubt will bo followed by a wave of enthusiastic religions feeling."
RELIGIOUS REVIVAL NOW DUE. lu an editorial article appearing in the "Century Magazine" a number of facts culled from various periodicals and expressions of opinion from leading students of sociology, are brought together,, from which the writer argues that there is imminent just now "nothing les.sthan. a revival of religion." The' need for fcliis' revival is, he- believes, beginning to be. generally felt, and comes as a' step in the social evolution, "lioral rules," lie writes, "are not enough; what is needed most is moral motive power—tho love of righteousness, the impulse to integrity, tho enthusiasm of virtue. And this, as even the common man is beginning to feel, is kindled only by religion—by fellowship and communion with that Power not ourselves .which makes for righteousness. . . . Heretofore there has been much protest against any close contact, of religion with, business or with polities. Now it seems to be assured that nothing but religion can renovate brutalisecl business and corrupt politics. It is a great enlargement of the 'popular conception of religion,-and ought tp j»aiu for it some new consideration."
