An action has been brought in an Alleghany Court by the Earl of Yarmouth (married in 1903 to 'Miss Alice Thaw, who obtained a decree of nullity in 1908, and renounced the title of Countess of Yarmouth). '• The Earl (who is the eldest soil nnd heir, of the Marquis of Hertford, and who is noted for his fondness of ballet dancing) sought ,to retain 500,000 dollars (£100,000) realty, being a portion of Miss Thaw's doivry, but the Court' ordered its reconveyance to her. The decision was arrived at under a hurriedly drawn trusteoship clause in connection with the marriage settlement papers, which gave the husband an interest only. [Miss Alice Thaw is a sister of Harry Thaw, now detained' for the killing of Stanford White under notorious circumstances. Thaw senior was a Pittsburg magnate. The ox-Countess now desires to he known as Mrs. Copley Thaw.] Mr. Robert B. Macduff,, B.Sc., E.M., who has been appointed - mathematics master at the Auckland Technical College, was director of the Karangaliakc School of Mines, when ho resigned to go to America to continue his studies at the Michigan College of Mines, and also at the University of Chicago. As a result of his studies in America,-he obtained a scholarship for mathematics at the former institution in February last, and in April ho passed tho final examination for tlio degrees of B.Sc., and E.M. A letter was received . yesterday from tho Rev. A. Jcllie, Unitarian minister in Auckland, containing his formal acceptance of the charge of the Unitarian Church, Wellington, in succession to ' Dr. Tudor Jones. Mr. Jellie will not be able to come to Wellington till the first week in September. The death occurred at Napier yesterday of Mr. John Kinross (Jomly (formerly manager of the Napier branch of Dalpicty and Co.), in his sixtieth year. —Press Association.
