Whilst in Auckland,' the 1 Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) was presented with a massivo kauri glim clock by Mr. G. Hamiah, who is about to loave'on an extended tour of the world. Yesterday was the fourth anniversary .of.the death of the Right Hon. R. J. Seddon, who died-at sea on board the steamer Oswestry Grange while travelling from Sydney to New Zealand. A number of 1 wreaths wero placed upon the grave on' Observatory Hill. The Rev. J. W. Shaw, assistant pastor of the Dunedin Knox Church, has accepted a call to Knox Church, Invercargill. . Mr. Shaw is an M.A. ot the Otago University, and received his theological training at the Presbyterian Theological Hall, D.unedin.
Mr b J. Nathan left on a business -trip to Sydney.by the Ulimaroa last evening. ' Mr. A.',H. Dillon,. 9f Waipukurau, third son of Mr. A. Dillon, M.1!., has been asked to contest the Haw*ce s Bay seat at the next general elation. Mr H. M. Kilgour, who has been estabiished-in Wellington as a dental surgeon for soino time, is about to settle in Sydney. Mrs. Kilgour was formerly Miss Lily Everett, ono of the ileverest principals of the Polla.rd Juvenile Opera Company in its brightest days. 1
Mr. F. J. Diglit .loft yesterday on a. 'business trip to Sydney and Melbourne. Mr. Frank Aslibolt returned by the UlimaToa yesterday from a' three, months' holiday in Tasmania.
Messrs. W. F., E. 8., and H. W. Shortt left by the Ulimaroa yesterday on a trip to Australia. The many friends of Mr. W. Coffey, (pell known as secretary of the Wellington Boxing Association- and in connection with various branches of athletic sport, will regret to hear of his death, which occurred at a privato hospital at an " early hour this morning. The deceased was a son of Mr. Paul Coffey, of Oriental Bay. ■ Soon after leaving school ho was apprenticed to ' the gineering trade, and later took up journalism. He joined tho staff of tlx© "Evening Post,", where for some years he was the shipping reporter. Next, Mr. Coffey went to Dune.din to occupy a similar position on the "Dunetliii Star." Upon his return, to Wellington some years back he commenced in business as an' advertising agent. 'Ultimately, however, he returned to journalism, acting as tho local representative,, particularly in regard to sporting , and athletic news, for various newspapers tliroughqut the Dominion. He took a keen' interest in various forms of sport, being especially enthusiastic in football, whilo he also kept closcly in touch with amateur athletics, having been a member both of the -N.Z.A.A.A. and tho Wellington Centre. The.control of rowing also occupied a good deal o:: his attention. Boxing was another branch of. sport in which lie took a leading part. In this connection it may bo mentioned that he was secretary of the local Boxing Association, a position which he had held for some years.
