Referring to the new steamers for the Aberdeen Line, the "Sbipplnir end Syren" says:—ln addition to the Fteamer which Messrs. George Thompson and Co. have ordered from Messrs. Harland and Wollf to replace the Aberdeen linor Pericles (she is, by the way, to be called Euripides, the criginal name. Themistocles, beins, in the owners' opinion, too severs a task for the uninitiated), we learn that a second vessel is also on order. But while the Euripides will be a twin-screw steamer of nuoitl 11.5H1J iam. Hio othei. which In all probability will Iso called .Euphrates, willbo a triple-screw steamer, propelled by »' combination oJ reciprocating and turbine engines. She will probable be sliclitly larger than the Euripides, and will be the first triple-screw ctcamer to rua in the Australian trade. " There will be several novelties in the passonser accommodation.' For instance, some of Iho flrstelass suiclcberth cabins on the bridce deck will be 90 arranged that a. door may bo opened between them, thus transforming them Into two-berth room. Tn Urn third cla-a. moreover, th«rc will be a few single-berth cabins, which !i< auito unprecedented. Elaborate precautions will be made to en--sure the safety of tho vessels and their, human freight, tho bulkheads bcins eo m> renKfJ that any two comportments could bo flooded without causing disaster.
