SUPREME COURT SESSIONS.

The Supreme Court was occupied yesterday and to-day hearing: the petition of Amelia Derrc-itt for a judicial.separation from" her husband, Robert Derreit, tho well-known jockey and trainer, m the ground of ill-treatment. Evidence was'led to-i!nv for the respondent denying the allegations. ' The decision was reserved. Palnierston North, June 9. At the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr. Justice' Cooper, Robert Patrick Daly, convicted of stealing a gold watch, was" admitted io probation for two yeais. The case V. 31. Braund v. E. D. Hoben, editor of the "Mnnawntu Daily Times," was commenced. The claim is for .£5Ol damages, for alleged libel arising out of a paragraph contained m the report on Jlillar and Giorgi's fire, v;hich occurred at the time of the powelka scare. The paragraph is as "Mr. Warner states that at Siillar aiid Giorgi's lire an individual ekiniins to be aji assessor atte-Bl'ted to interfere with him in carrying out. hie duty." A similar action is being brought against Mr. Warner, superin- . tendent of the firo brigade. The case for the prosecution is finished. ■ The defence will be heard to-morrow.
