MASTERTON NOTES.

(From Our Specisi Correspondent.) . Masterton, June 9. The weather was very bud tor the opening ceremony in connection with ■ the Mastertou gasworks this afternoon, riie function, however, passed oil very satisfactorily and afternoon tea was served to visitors. An institution known as the "Wairarapa Egg Circle" lias done good work lately in the disposal oi eggs. Since May" 10 nearly 500 dozen eggs have been sent away, and have realised as high as is. id. per dozen. In the senior hockey matches to-day, Pose Ottice defeated Ivnox by two goals to one. lixcelsior beat Cartertou by two to nil. v A sitting of the Electoral Court was held this, morning, when Mr. C. C. The Masterton Mounted Rifles have decided to hold their annual ball on July 7. Champion certificate; will ho civcii for roses, sweet pea*, ami pansies, and a special prize will be given for tho most points gained by amateurs. - The complete result of the telegraphic chess match between the Masterton and South Wairarapa Chess Ciifbs gives the former six points and the latter c-ne. A upturn match will take place at an early date. The Masterton Club will sustain a loss by the departure of Mr. J. ■\.
