(From Our Own Correspondent. *— A petitiou (which is receiving largo support) to tho Railway Department, requesting that the overhead bridge north of tho Peiono railway station bo extended to the Ivorokoro Road, is now being canvassed by Councillor Jones- Last year the Department agreed to do tho work, provided that the Pctone Council paid the cost. Tho council would not, however, agree to this. Despite the very wet weather the entertainment by tho Mascotte Picture Company,in aid of tho Tetone District High School funds, was well attended in the Oddfellows' Hall last evening. The films' wero both instructive and humorous, tho best amongst the many being "A Corner in "Wheat" and "Foolshead Reports a Wedding." Songs were given by Mr. J?red Hicks and Mr. E. Wiseman. Tho Picture Company will repeat their entertainment for the school funds this evening. HUTT liIYER BOARD. Mr. Robt. Stevens presided at the usual monthly meeting of the Hutt River Board last evening, other members preseijt being Messrs. Peterkin and Sladclen. i After the confirmation of tho minutes, the chairman said, although rather late m the day, he wished to follow all local bodies throughout the Dominion. Ho therefore moved a motion of condolence with the members of the Royal Family in their recent great loss. The tenderers for the supply of CG 30ft. turpentine piles turned out to be E. F. Broad and Co., Ltd., at Is. per foot, the total cost being £158 6s. Bd. A letter was received from the Ratepayers' Association requesting the u?e of the board's - room for committee meetings. It was resolved to hold the matter over until further information was forthcoming. Accounts amounting to £30 15s. 9d. wero passed for payment. Tho overseer reported that tho cutting of all noxious weeds on tho cnbankments had beon completed; that the embankment crossing near Feist's stable had been put in order; that willows were being procured for planting in the various bank fillings at the back of the breastworks; that no freshes had occurred, the river being exceptionally low this month; and that the protection works throughout tho district are in good order. UPPER HUTT TOWN BOARD. . A meeting of - the Upper Hutt Town Board held on Wednesday evening was attended by Sir. J. Harrison (chairman), and Commissioners Burrell, Craig, Keys, and Wilkie. ' Councillors Edwards, Whiteman, Welch, Galloway, of the Hutt County Council, camo as a deputation to discuss tho adjustment of accounts. The matter was argued at length, and it was finally decided by the board that a definite sum would be named at next meeting, receipt of which would be accepted from the Countj Council in full satisfaction of the claim. Five ratepayers petitioned against tho pbstriicting of the Wakatiko'Road, urging that the road had been unlawfully blocked by fences. It was resolved to obtain an opinion from the borough solicitor as to whether the board must compel the landowners in tho vicinity to reopen the road.
The whole matter of the lighting installation for the town was referred to the. Works Committee of the board for consideration and report. The-Works Committee were also aslted to consider the proposal to continue tho river protective works for 20 or 30 chains for tlio purpose'of preventing'damage to tho existing protective works. Tho town'clerk reported ; that since April 1 .£167 had been snoftt: on metalling and road maintenance, .£650 having been provided for this work.
