ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' SOCIETY.

0 ANNUAL DINNER. ' The annual dinner, of the Wellington Accountant Students' Society was .held at Godber's Rooms last evening. Therewas an attendance of over 60, and tho function was a distinct success. Mr. H. C. Tewsley (president of the Chamber of Commerce) presided. Tho guests of the evening included tho members of the Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, and Professor Salmond, Colonel R.< J. Collins, Messrs. A. L. Herdman, M.P., T. Young, H. P. Von Haast, and D. M. Findlay. Mr. H. C. Tewsley proposed the toast of "Parliament." Replying to tho toast, Mr. W. A. Oil (Mayor of Invcrcargill) referred to recent legislation affecting the accountants of Now Zealand, and doubted whether the Act passed last session would prove to be tho subject of universal approbation from those whom it ,was intended to benefit.

Mr. H. F. Von Haast, called upon to propose tho toast of the "Institute of Accountants and the Association of Accountants and Auditors," spoke in lighter vein of tha law of accountancy as practised, or, aa might have been practised, by the Maoris of a previous epoch. His remarks were bristling with the legal terminology of accountancy, and highly- diverting withal. The responders were Messrs. James Brown and Henry Shaw.

Other toasts were: "The New Zealand Society of Accountants," proposed by Mr. A. L. Herdman, M.P., and responded -to by Messrs. Peter Barr and A. B. Robertson; "Tho Wellington Accountant Students' Socioty," proposed by Mr. W. B. Hudson, and responded to by Mr. C. 11. Matthews; "The Lecturers," proposed by Mr. E. W. Hunt and responded to by Messrs. A. S. Biss and T. Young; "The Chairman," proposed by Mr. C. B. Robertson.

Songs and recitations were also given at intervals, an excellent programme being presented.
