MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL

(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Feilding, June 8. The Manawatu, County Council's monthly meeting was held to-day. The Foxton Borough Council wrote requesting a revaluation of the property at tho Heads with a view to further 1 considering the making of road to the beach. Mr. W. Holben wrote stating that 36 leaseholders at tho Foxton Heads were willing to be rated up to 15s. per year towards the formation and upkeep of the road to the beach.

The Marlon Borough Council sent its consent to joining with other local bodies in urging the Government to connect tho Sandon-l'oxt'oii train with Greatford or Morton. It was reported that metal costing JE22O had beQii spread on the Taikorea and Cooper's lines. Bank balances were reported as follow :— County fuud account, debit, '£!Bo 19s. Id.; loan account, credit, .C-539 3s. !)d. Amounts available for expenditure up to March 31, 1911, are:-Sandon riding, .£3Ol 13s. 3d.; Mount Stewart, .£395 10s. 9d.; Waitohi, i 340 95.; Kongoroa. ',£537 lis. 3d.; Carnarvon, JCI97 Bs. 3d.; Kawakawa, ,£517 25.; Awahou .£389 Os. Id.; WJiirokino, ,£l5O 7s. Bd. Tho tramway manager reported that a credit balance of JESB 17s. lOd. had resulted on the working of tho tramway last month. Tho principal items of traffic were; Grain, 80} tons;' minerals, 30} tons; merchandise, 139 tons; Has; 39 trucks; metal, 300 yards; timber, 49,600 feet; fares, .£lO Bs. Bd. Tho new locomotive was to hand and was running satisfactorily. A trial had been made on .May 17 with a load of 115 tons (15 wagons) .winch was drawn with case. - A long discussion took plnco oh tho question of petitioning Parliament for permission to extend Iho tramway to Greatford or, on the alternative, lo ask the Government lo dn the'work. It wns finally decided that the chairman (Mr. ,T. G. Wilson) should draw up a petition in that effect, same to be signed by tlio local Jjoriies.
