WADESTOWN MATTERS.
MUNICIPAL ASSOCIATION REPORT. The second annual report of the Wades:town Municipal Electors' Association, to ••be presented at the annual general meeting to-morrow evening reads as. follows':— "Tramway.—ln presenting tho report of the second year's working ■of the association your committee can congratulate the members of the association upon the fact that the construction of the tramway has already been commenced and the wprk should be well advanced before the winter is through. Tour committee has from the inception of the association mado tho tramway its particular aim. Since tho previous annual report, as members . are aware, the area to bo subject to the special tramway rate has. been much broadened. The route now adopted for ■ v the tram is a much more satisfactory one in every way than the proposed Saunders lane route, and altogether the bungling which brought about the invalidity of the poil on the loan proposals for that route ■ have proved to be a blessing in disguise. Whilst dealing with this question your committee would like to place on record its appreciation of the manner in which this question was faced and dealt with by the. late Mayor (Dr. Newman) and the members of the City Council. "Water and Sanitation;— Some timo since your committco got into communication with the City Council and asked for expedition in the expenditure of tho sum allocated for water and drainage for the district. It was pointed out to tho council that ratepayers wero paying a rate to cover interest on that sum and also a sanitary fee of Us. 2d. per annum per house—and were thus being doubly rated until the money voted was expended. Your committee has good reason to be- • lieve that the City Council intends to grant ratepayers some relief from this double burden, but nevertheless your committeo thinks that, in the interests of the health and well-being of tho community, the incoming committee should make a strong point of seeing that the. water and drainage aro provided without undue delay. "lioads.—Some weeks since your committee drew the attention of the City Council to the bad state of several of the roads in tho dislrict and pointed out that attention was required immediately As a result a few loads of metal were spread,, but this has all been lost in the clay as the formation has all been worn through. The City Council has promised to overhaul the streets before winter sets in. Elizabeth Street is in a disgraceful condition, and as. almost all children going to and from school are compelled to use this street, it should receive immediate attention before the wet weather sets jn.
"Wilton's Bush Reserve.—Tour committee lias given some conisderation to this question, and thinks that an effort should bo made to have the reserve vested in a Domain Board so that it may bo mndo a popular picnic resort. At present picnic parties cannot get hot water. A proper fireplace should be erected and provision made so that hot water could be supplied by the caretaker when reQuired."
