KILBIRNIE NEEDS.

DEPUTATION TO MAYOR. A deputation from the Eilbirnie Munk cipal Electors' Association laid several matters before the Mayor (Mr. T. M, Wilford) on Monday evening. Mr. J. A. Hegiubotham, who was the chief speaker, referred to the diversion of .£2OOO - borrowed for the Kilbirnie recreation ground to work on Moxham Avenue. The ground, he said, was being used by the council as a dumping place for trucks and timber, and it had not been levelled for sports''purposes. From the attitude of the Deserves Committee, who had visited tlio ground, it . was thought that .£IOOO would have been placed on the estimates for its improvement. Other requirements of the borough were a tramway waiting shed near the recreation ground, steps from Tully Street 'to Crawfor4 Road, to give access to Norton Terrace, re-forming of the stops at Henry Street, and improvements at Childers Terrace. A soa wall should also be formed to square off the reclamation ground. 'i'ho Mayor admitted the past diversion of money borrowed for the recreation ground, and said he was considering whether it would be better to expend what money the council could vote on the beginning of a sea wall or devote the money to improving the present ground. The prospect of ,£25,000 being spent on reclamation, work was very remote. He admitted tliut Norton Terrace was a quagmire, but it had to be ascertained if the Crawford trustees, from whom the terrace had been taken over, were liable in regard to the street, and if so, to what extent. If they were, then there was no reason why the council should Jay. Ha would have a report on Henry ' Street made by the engineer. If only ,£SO were required to put the recreation ground in order he would ask the committee to expend that sum. He could not promise, however, that this would be done. The engineer had been asked for a report on the whole matter, and the question would be discussed by the council.
