NEW CHURCH AT BROOKLYN.
CEREMONY TO-DAY.
For a long tfme past the Baptist Church at Brooklyn has been-much too smal}' to serve requirements, aud a new wooden church, designed in the. Gothic style, is now in course of erection alongside it. .'An interesting ceremony is to lake place this afternoon in the new church, which is well on its way towards completion. Memorial stones will be laid by Mr. F. J. .Walters, the senior deacon of tho church, and ono of the oldest residents'in the district, and by Mr. A. Hoby, an expresident of the Baptist Union. Addresses will be given by the Rev. J. J. North, Rev. W. Lamb, and Mr. R. A. .Wright, M.P., and the school children jnll sing.
The new church will seat 260 worshippers, on' ordinary occasions, but it has been so constructed that it will accommodate many more when need arises. 'At, the back of the platform are two large class-rooms, one ou each side of a large vestry room. The class-rooms are separated from the main church room by folding doors, which can be thrown open on occasion. At Che entrance to the chUTch there, are two' moi l e big classrooms, on either side of a broad vestibule, and these rooms also are divided by folding doors. The church room, therefore, is capable of being very considerably extended at both ends. l The building will te lighted with electricity, and ventilated in an- up-to-date manner. The ceiling and walls will be lined with metallic steel. Mr. H. T. Johns is the-architect for the building, which is expected to cost about .£1525.
Special cars will bo run from Manners Street take people to to-day's ceremony from 2.30 p.m.
