The new State Premier, Mr. Verran, addressing the Anti-Gambling' League, states that gambling will receive, no shelter from him. He added: "If the totalisator was removed we would have better citizenship." [Only recently raised to office, Mr. Verran, Labour Leader and Premier, is losing no time in declaring his uncompromising hostility to drink and gambling. In a.speech (cabled on Saturday) at the Rechabite jubilee, he said: "God is not going to see tho i principles of society dropped by a few dirty beer barrels." Mr. Verran added that he was there to defend those principles. While he held tho position of Premier no man need expect any sympathy when he came to him about the drink traffic. He (the Premier) was concerned to defend righteousness, truth, and justice.]
