(From Our Special CorresDondent.i e THE PARK COMMITTEE. The. usual monthly meeting of the Hutt Park Committee was hold in the Petone Municipal Buildings on Thursday evening. Members present were :— Messrs. Baldwin (chairman), M'Ewan, Maeaskill, and Barlow. The chairman's ■action in granting the use of the park to the Brooklyn amd Wellington Harriers was approved. Mr. J. llayne, on behalf of the Wellington District Young iton's Bible-class, asked for the use of the, part next Easter, for an oncampmenit. It was resolved to inform Mr. Rayno that, as it was possible that the Government might require the park an that date for. their troops encampment, the application would be held over till next January. The Petone Hockey Club wrote complaining of not being "allowed the ground which they had had the use of last yea.r. Owing to the new golf links absorbing a portion of this ground, the committee had granted two other grounds, which, however, were unsuitable. It was resolved to inform the Hockey Club that they could obtain the use of the old ground provided that satisfactory arrangements were made with the- Golf Club. The secretary of the Waiwetu Golf Club complained of the "small-boy" nuisance, whilst play was in progress. The caretaker was authorised to warn the "nuisance" off the golf links. THE PROPOSED TRAMWAYS LOAN. The Hutt Valley Tramway Board are calling a meeting of Petone ratepayers to consider the proposals for raisijig and securing a loan of £85,000 for the tramways. The meeting will be held in St. Augustine's Hall next weefe ■ Another meeting will be held in the Lower Hutt Town Hall. PETONE POLICE COURT. At the Potone Police Court, on Thursday,, before Mossrs. W. Inglis and R. Mothes, J.P.'s, Michael Connelly, an old offender, who wa.s charged with drunkenness, was convicted and discharged. On a further charge of "begging," accused was sentenced to two months' hard labour. MUNICIPAL INQUIRY. At Monday's meeting of the Petono Borough Council, Councillor Piper will move: —"That a committee of this council bi set up to inquire into the general management, (office: and works) of the borough gasworks, such committee to have power to call for any books, papers, or.returns, and if necessary to employ outside assistance." The committee are to report to the coiincil .with recommendations (if any) which may be calculated to effect improvement in the present financial position.
