His Excellency the Governor leaves for luckland by the Main Trunk train this morning. He will attend farewell functions in the northern city, iind will sail for England on Monday. , The Hon, G. Fowlds (Minister for Edueation) is not expected to return to Wellington for at least a week. The Hon. J. A. Millar (Minister for Railways) leaVes on Monday for Auckland, where the matter of the proposed duplication of the Parnell tunnel will engage his attention. On his return journey. Mr. Millar will visit Wangauui in regard to railway matters. The Hon. Dr. Findlay (Minister for Justice), who was at Kawakawa yesterday, will probably return to Wellington at the beginning of next week.' Among the passengers . for the south last night was the Hon. D. Buddo, Minister for Internal Affairs, who is on a Visit to North 9 anter bury. The Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister for Agriculture, who is at present in Otago, is expected to return to Wellington within the next few days. Lord Islington, the new Governor, is to be publicly welcomed at the old Parliament Buildings on the day of his arrival in Wellington, viz., June 22. Captain M'Artlmr, •of the Maoriland Steamship Company, returned from Dunedin yesterday. The Rev. J. C. Rae, 8.A.. (Church of England) Rev. S. Nixon (Presbyterian), and. Mr. S. J. Mathieson (Church of Christ) have been added to the list of officiating ministers under the Marriage Act. ' iHr. A. W. P. Hewitt has been appointed deputy registrar of marriages, births, and deaths at Taumarunui. Mr.' R. R. Groom has been reappointed a member of the Hawke's Bay Laud Board. The resignation of Mr. G. H. Harbroe, sf Carterton, of his'appointment as a justioe of the peace has been accepted. Mr. George Prouse, sou of Mr. John Prouse, of Wellington, was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court by the Chief Justice on Wednesday, on the motion of Mr. p. H. Fell. TheV secretary of the New Zealand Swimming Association has been informed that Mr. W. Heney, general secretary of the Royal Life Saving Association of Great Britain, who is touring Canada in the interests of his association, will arrive in New Zealand in October. At, the last meeting of the Education Board a letter was received from Mr. O. W. Lee, headmaster of the Martinborough Public School, in which he intimated a desire to be relieved of his duties, from Christmas. It, was accordingly decided that Mr. Ws resignation bo accepted. Passengers leaving fov Sydney to-day by the Matai will include tho "I'etcr Pan" Company and the "All Black" footballers. In reply to a question yesterday, Lieut.Colonel. A. Bauchop, C.M.G. (Officer Commanding the District), who is under orders to proceed to England for a course of instruction at the Caniberly Staff College (England), told a representative, of The Dominion that nothing definite had as yet becu settled with regard to his departure for England. Captain G. S. Richardson, Chief Instructor of Artillery, has gone to Auckland to supervise tho annual service classfiring of the A Battery of Field Artillery. Ho was accompanied by the officers of the D Battery (Wellington), who have been granted permission to attend the shooting. Iluis returning the visit paid by the Auckland officers to the D Battery's service practice at Featherston last January. Mr. llenry Burling, of Waikanae, has received a letter from the Queen Mother, congratulating him on his 109 th birthday. . ■ Dr. Yalintine is at present on a visit to Auckland. i Professor' Bickerton returned to Christohurch by the Mararoa. last night. Mr. Robert Mackenzie uns Inst night appointed by the City Council to be assistant building inspector, and Mr. J. Calnan to be caretaker of tho Thorndon Swimming Batli. Mr. John' Smith, one of Wellington's 'oldest city councillors, was yesterday granted two months' leave of absence in onicr lo take a health trip. He will leave a fortnight henco for the islands and Australia.
