WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
THE GOVERNMENT AND THE TliAilS. ' Very detailed schedule forms have befell sent to the Wellington City Council and Christchurch Tramway Board by the Public Works Department asking for information on a large number of points in regard to the tramways. The Tramway Board at Christchurch is apparently not unsuspicious of some ulterior design in this request for detailed information, and has written to the Wellington City Council asking if it had received a similar schedule, and if the object for requiring the information was krown. Tha letter from the Tramway Board, which was read at last night's meeting of tho council, suggested that possibly the Government desired the information with a view to the Teintroduction of the obnoxious Tramways Bill of last session, and it might be that, the Government had some idea of taking over the control of municipal tramways in the Dominion. To this letter a Teply had been sent to the effect that the City Council did not know for what object the information was required, unless it was for the purposes suggested by the Christchurch Board. The matter was referred last night to the consideration of the. Tramways Committee. . • •
