FOOTBALL. WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. . TWO PLAYERS SUSPENDED. ' A meeting of the Management Committee of "the Wellington Rugby Union was.held last evening, Mr. S. S. Brown presiding. There were also present: Messrs. W. Hardham, J. O'Sullivan, A. Wilson, J. Sweeney, J. Burns, P. Peters, W. Porry, and W. G. Talbot. Tho Athletio Club, having made a statement that Johnsonville played a certain player named C. Little, who, it was alleged, had already played for another team - (Porirua), the latter club wrote stating that they did not play the man in question, and suggesting that the Athletic Club should be made to prove the statement. It was decided to refer the letter to tho Athletic Club, asking them for an explanation. Little had' already been written to for an explanation, and none having been received he was suspended until he does reply. It was also resolved to ask Porirua for an explanation.

i The . Wellington Football Association again wrote complaining of Rugby players encroaching on the "soccer" grounds at Newtown. The secretary stated that he would advise the various clubs to be careful not to allow players to pass across the "soccer" ground whilst play is in progress. The Southern Club wrote withdrawing its team from the junior competition. It was decided that the withdrawal of the te&m conjd not be allowed.

The Meirose Club asked that its thirdclass team should be withdrawn. In this case also it was decided that fne request could not be granted. The Petone Club was granted permission to present J. Ryan, of tie New Zealand representative team, with a travelling bag before the team leaves for Australia. The bag was purchased by means of . a Is. subscription list circulated amongst club members. A similar permit was granted to the Wellington Club in regard to M'Kellar.

Permission was granted to the Selwyn Club to send a, team to Palmerston tomorrow, to compete in the local seven Brside tourney.

The Athletic Club wrote taking exception io a certain referee being appointed to control every game in which the club is concerned. It was decided to ask the Athletic Club; to make a speciflo oharge against the referee if they wished the matter to be considered.

It was decided that senior championship matches should be commenced at 2.45 o'olock, starting from Saturday next. A special allowance will bo made for Petone when they are playing at the park. The two players ordered off the field by. the Teferee (Mr. J; ' Francis) in the Poncke v. St. James senior match last Saturday on a charge of having struck each other' appeared before the committee. The referee also attended, 'and stated that ,the Poncke man struck an opponent two or three times. A little later the St. Janica man struck tlie Poneke player from behind, the latter at -the.time being in a bending position over another opponent. He (the referee) could not say whether thero was any provocation in the first- instance.

The Poneke player stated that the charge "had him paralysed." He did not strike, anyone. At the moment of the alleged striking he had just collared two, men, and he was then brought to the ground by someone behind him. He had never been warned on a footbal! ground before. The St. James player said he was quite Innocent of the charge of striking, and was surprised to bo ordered off. He jumped on the Poneke man and brought him to the ground,' but never struck Jiim. . Palmerston North, June 1. •■ A match was played on the Palmerßton Show Grounds, this afternoon between theTalmerston Kia Toa Club and a team from the Woodville Club. The ground was in fine order, and some excellent play on both sides was shown, the game ending in favour of Kia Toa by fourteen points to eight. Queonslanders scored the winning try just before the end of the match. ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL, ' MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING. The Management Committee of the Wellington Football Association met last evening, Mr. J. J. Hobarts presiding. * Mr W Duncan, recently appointed a member of the cominittep as representative of the Wednesday clubs, was extended a welcome on taking his seat for the iirst time.

Permission was granted to the members of tho Khandallah Football Club to; sign on with other clubs. In a letter to the association the Management Committee of the Hockey Association stated that steps had been tnken to prevent a recurrence of the practice (complained of by the Football Association), made by hockey playirs at Kelburne Park of walking across the football playing ground.

REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES. Hockey enthusiasts who make the trip to Palmerston North ,to-morrow (King's Birthday) will be well catered for, as two representative matches, comprising Wednesday and Saturday teams from ■Wellington will meet Manawatu at Palmcrstou North. The teams will leavo Wellington (Thorndon Station) by tho 7.45 a.m. train, arriving at Palmerston 11.30 n.m. The next train, leaving at 9.10 a.m., will arrive in Palmerston at 12.53 p.m. Those who contemplate making the trip can travel by cither train. THE CORONATION MEDAL. WON BY MRS. WINTERBOURNE. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) Palmerston. June 1. The result of Hie Coronation Medal match, competed for by the ladies' golf clubs throughout New Zealand on Friday last, are now to hand. The best cards are as follow:—

Winner: Mrs. Winterbouvne (Otaki), 91, handicap 17, net 77, par. 84, 7. strokes up. Second: Miss G. Booth, Masterton, 100, handicap 25, net 75, par 80, 5 up. Third: Miss Grey, Mirnina, 98, handicap 25, net 73, par 77, 4 up; and Mrs. R. J.' Gilmour (Invercargill), 105, handicap 23, net 82, par 80, i up. The vrinnor—a , clubmato of the New Zealand champion—beat Mrs. Bevan by one stroke without the handicap. The weather for the contest was variable, several clubs being unable to play. One hundred and twenty players representing nineteen clubs took part. MATCH AT MIRAMAR.
