. 1 His Excellency the Governor will be presented with an address this morning by the New Zealand Institute of Architects, of which he is the first patron. At 5 o'clock this afternoon Lord Plunket will hold a farewell leve-a at the Legislative Council Chambers. He will leave to-morrow for Auckland, from which port he will sail for Australia next Monday. After visiting Sydney and Brisbane Lord Plunket will leave for Adelaide, where ho will join the Macedonia on July 7 for Home. The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward), returned to Wellington from Christchurch last night. The Hon. J. Carroll (Minister for Native Affairs) has returned from his visit to tht> Wonganui district, where ho met a citizens' committee with reference to the scenery along the river. Mr. J. P. Firth, principal of Wellington College, who has been over on a visit to Nelson, returned to Wellington last night by the Arahura.' : Messrs. W. H. Beetham and J. T. Holmes, both of Masterton, are at present on a visit to .the Nelson district. Further changes in the police force are reported. It is understood that Constable Cowan, of Helensville, and Constable Fitzgerald, of Kihikihi, have been promoted to the rank of sergeant. Tho former will probably be transferred to Auckland, and tho latter to Wellington. The following havo been elected members of the Anglican Diocesan Synod for the undermentioned electoral districts:— Waverley-Waitotara, Mr. E. L. Burgess; Manaia, Mr. W. .Taylor; Aramoho, Mr. L. S. Weller; Island Bay, Mr. J. W. Griffiths.. A Dunedin Press Association telegram states that Mt. C. A. Young, headmaster of tho Caversham Public School, died suddenly at Kelso, where he was spending the midwinter holidays and undergoing treatment for rheumatism. The following gentlemen have been appointed parochial nominators:—St. Paul's, Wellington: Messrs. W. V. Barraud, W. C. Kensington, and T. F. Martin: St. Peter's, Wellington: Messrs. St. Matthew's, Mastorton: Messrs. ft. Brown, W. H. L. Gahvey, and E. H. Watldington. . Mr H. C. Lane, secretary of the North Canterbury Education Board, is spending, a few days in Wellington. Mr. R. E. Wood, Wellington manager for Kempthorne, Prosser and Co.'s New Zealand Drug Co., Ltd., was entertained at dinner nt the Hotel Windsor on Tuesday evening, having given up his position to proceed to England aud the Continent of Europe, with a view to establishing o business connection on his own behalf. Mr. Wood, who is very popular, not only among his own staff, but also in business and social circles, was warmly eulogised for the courteous consideration he has always'-shown to those under him. As a token of their personal regard and esteem, his staff presented him with a gold watch, handsomely engraved, and an albert. Telegrams were received and read at the gathering from tho gonoral manager and the branch managers in the other principal cities in the Dominion, and also from travelling representatives, who were unavoidably absent, wishing Jlr. Wood "bon voyage" und a prosperous future. Complimentary speeches were mode,' and good wishes expressed, by Messrs. Jock Hayworth, King, Abram, Alderson, Corner, and Blacklock, representing all sections ofthe company's employees. Mr. Wood feelingly replied. The ceremony concluded with clieors for Mr. and Mrs. Wood aud their family. .At a later stage. Mr. Wood reciprocated the compliment by extending his hospitality to all tho members of his staff.
