ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

At an inquest concerning the death of Richardson, killed by falling off the Lyttelton train yesterday, the evidence showed that deceased had lately had an attack of paralysis. .He was apparently trying to;cross .from one carriage to the next, and slipped. A, verdict of accidental death was returned. CARRIER'S SUDDEN DEATH. Christchurch, May 31. Thomas Williams, a well-known carter, died suddenly this afternoon shortly after 2 o'clock while following his occupation. It appears that Mr. Williams, with his horse and van, was in Barbadoes Street, near the gasworks, and was seen to fall forward in ,the van.' When ho wa3 picked up' it was .found that life was extinct. THROWN FROM A HORSE. Timaru, May 31. At Sutherlands, a young woman named Mellor was thrown from her horse and sustained concussion of the brain. She is in a critical condition. HHJND DEAD. Christchurch, May 31. A man named Patrick O'Connell' was found dead in his house in Duke Street to-day. MISHAP IN THE CITY. While proceeding along Victoria Street on a motor bicycle yesterday afternoon, Councillor J. E. Fitzgerald met with an accident. It appears that a horse and vehicle were proceeding in the same direction, and at the time of the occurrence a traction engine was also approaching from the opposite quarter. The horse took fright at tho engine, and ran into Mr. Fitzgerald, tho shaft of the vehicle striking him. Dr. Boyd was quickly on the scene, and attending to tho injury, which, fortunately, was not serious.
