BROOKLYN TRAMS.

— -i - A RATEPAYERS' DEPUTATION. A deputation from the Brooklyn Municipal Electors' Association waited on tho Tramways Committee of tho City Council yesterday to ask for certain improvements and concessions in regard to tho tramway service. ~ , . , Mr. J. Hopkirk said that the district was increasing by leaps and bounds, and increased tramway accommodation ■ was required. At present the trams were overcrowded, and both at Manners- Street and Webb Street many people were unable to get into them when they desired. Ho suggested that during the rush hours trams should run from Manners Street by pairs instead of singly, at least every ten minutes. It was a difficult matter for people coming from Burke/s Hill, half way down the slope, to get on the cars. Could it be made allowable' for these people to get on the cars and stand? All these difficulties were accentuated in wet weather. People were getting into tho way of walking up and down the hill, and the council was losins revenue in conseqnence. Mr. J. C. Brown, secretary of the association, endorsed these remarks, and said that it was also a disadvantage that people who wanted to buy concession tickets could not do so on tht cars. Tickets I were procurable only at certain shops, several of which were some distance from tho tramway. It was also felt that if .a man had a concession ticket it should bo available also for the members of his family or for friends travelling with him; At present only one punch in tho ticket was permitted. The Mayor promised that the matter should bo fully considered. It was realised that Brooklyn was a growing district. The decision of the committee would bo made known to the secrotary of the association.
