STAR OP CANADA AT MELBOURNE. A cablegram from Melbourne announces the arrival there of the Tyser steamer Star, of Canada from London. After discharge of part canto she proceeds to Sydney, Auckland, Napier, and Wellington. Her arrival at this port maty bo looked for about June 20. THE ARAnURA. A telegram received by the Union Company states that tho Arahura arrived at Greymouth at noon yesterday, and waa expected to sail at midnight on tho return journey to Westport, Nelson, Picton, and Wellington. A report of the voyage of the U.S. and A.S. chartered steamer Mimiro, which arrived at Melbourno from Now York on May 22, shows that she made a very creditable passage of 47 days 9 hours 38 minutes. Tho vessel looked as though she had been only on a few days' cruise (says an exchange), thero being only a few specks of rust showing on her grey hull. The Mimiro's voyage may bo called an Southern Ocean on May 9, observations of the .eclipse of the sun were taken. On several occasions a magnificent display of.the Aurora Australia was seen, and Hallcy's comot was visible plainly at about 5 a.m. for twenty days. Tho Mirairo met the tail end of the tidal wave which ncarlv overwhelmed tho steamer Port Chalmers, but she suffered no ill effects. The weather conditions throughout the voyage wero favourable. The Mimiro was to land 4000 tons of general cargo at Melbourne beforo proceeding on to Sydney and Now Zealand ports; STAB OF SCOTLAND'S CAKGO. RUAHINE, FROM LONDON. Early yesterday morning the Port Health Officer visited the .New Heul.md Shipping Company's Ruahine, which had arrived in tlio stream from London on Sunday night. Tho medical inspection proved satisfactory, and tho vessel berthed at No. 1 south Queen's Wharf at 9 a.m. The Rualiinn left London on April 15, and J.'l.vmouth the following day. The voyage was. (jonerally uneventful. Very hot weather was experienced when passing through tho tropical regions, and in contrast to this tho weather .in the Southern Ocean was cold, stormy, and wet. On the run from Teneriffe to Capo Town, the Waimate, of the same Ileet, was passed. Rht> was bound from London to Port Chalmers, and signalled "All well."

Born at Marseilles in 1855, Monsieur Blanc had been in the service of the Messagcrics Maritimes for 35 years. He represented the company in the Far East for some considerable time, Singapore and Yokohama. He occupied a like position at Port Said. On his return to Europe, in 1899, 11. Blanc became assistant director, and four years later director.
