Canon Hicks, of Manchester, who has been appointed Bishop of Lincoln, has denied the widely-circulated statement that he is a Socialist. He is a Christian Socialist. It was not, he said, .the first time he had been called a Socialist, but in each case he had been mistaken for another Canon Hicks. NTho'experience was not altogothei pleasant, ho added. The other Canon Hicks had publicly announced his conversion to' Socialism, and had decided to sell all that ho had, including a rnotor-car, and give, the proceeds to the poor. The consequence was that he (tho Bishopdesignate) had received some letters congratulating him on his adoption of Socialism, and others from people who were anxioils to have anything Re had to give away. In the end tho letters wore so numerous that he sent them all to the Canon Hicks' for whom thoy wore intended.

A daring burglary was effected at the residence of Mr. C. B. Barnett, of Sutton CoUlfield, recently, when 'antique silver plate valued at JCIOOO was stolen.
