PERSONAL'NOTES FROM LONDON. London, April '21. i The High Commissioner has decided to renovate the* New Zealand Court at the Crystal Palace for the Festival of Empire, which opens next month. Miss Geraldine Broad, of Wellington, arrived in London a few days ago by tho Malwa. She intends staying.''in. Surrey and Kent, and may probably continue her nursing profession in this country.. .

Mr. E. H. A. Furby, of Wellington, who arrived in London recently, has joined tho drawing-office staff of Messrs. Denny Bros., shipbuilders, of Dumbarton, with a view to gaining experience in his profession. . Dr. J. , M. Mason, late Chief Health Officer for New Zealand, who has been reading for tho English Bar in Gray's Inn, has now qualified as a barrister. Mr. A. L. Jones, of Auckland who is at present staying in London, intends spending ten days on the Continent prior to leaving for Auckland by , tho Macedonia on May 0. Mr. B. Chase Morris and Mr. E. Grigg arrived from New Zealand yesterday, and are staying at the Waldorf Hotel. Thev travelled via America, crossing the Atlantic in the Campania. The Bishop of London and Canon Newbolt have nominated to tho living of St. Michael's Christchurch, New Zealand, the Rev. H. Darwin Burton, vicar of St. Saviour's, St. Albans. The nomination has been confirmed by the trustees of St. Michael's, and Mr. .Darwin Burton has accepted tho living .The Hon. Seymour Thorne-George, Mrs. and Miss Thorne-George, and Mr. and Mrs. Wallor, 'of ■ Auckland, were among the arrivals from New Zealand by tho Malwa. They are staying at present in South Kensington. Mr. and Mrs. Thorne-George and their daughter, intend remaining till tho end of the year. Mr. D. C. H. Florance, who. holds a travelling scholarship given by the managers of the Orient Rnytti Mail line of steamers to graduates of the New Zealand University, is in England, pursuing research work at Manchester University under Professor Rutherford, and will probably Teinain here for a couple of years. Mr. W. H. Rose, manager of the Oamaru aranch of the National Mortgago and Agency Company of New Zealand, and. president of tho Oamaru Chamber of Commerce, is at present on a visit to London.. Mr. Rose, who was born in New Zealand, and is making his first visit to England, is accompanied by Mrs. Rose. He proposes to spend some months in England, after visiting France, Italy, and Germany. Lieut. H. G. Grace, of Blenheim, is in England on furlough from his cavalry regiment in India, and is at present at Osborno, Isle of Wight, convalescing after a prolonged, attack of malaria. Ho hopes to spend a month ii Iwu iu &im Zealand before his leave expires.' -The New Zealand Association's entertainment at the Westminster Palace Hotel last week was the most successful the society has yet given. Over 120 guests were present,, among tho New Zealanders being Mr. and. Mrs. Moss Davis, Dr. Parkinson, Mr. and Mis. Pallisor and the Misses Palliser, Mr. James Callcnder (of the Bank of New Zealand) and Mrs. Callender, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Donne, Mr. and Mrs; Hanier, Mr. Richardson and the Misses Bicbardson, Mr. P. A. Vnile, Mr. E. M. Kennaway, Mr. John Ross, Mr. and Mrs. C. Hale, and Mr., Mrs., and Miss Hayman. Mr George Harnett, who visited New Zealand with the . Ajigio-Welsh football team, was also present, with Mrs. Harnett. Presentations vi-ere made to Mr. C. Wray Palliser arid his two daughters on behalf of the association, in recognition 6f the work they have done to make the society a success. Dr. Parkinson presented pieces of jewellery to tho Misses Palliser, and Mr. W. Palliser was presented with ft case of pipes by Mr. J. A. Mason. A wliist-drivo was held during the evening. Miss Stubbs and Miss De Verney won tho ladies' prizes, and Mr. Lucas and Mrs. De Verney (playing as a gentleman) the- men's. Afterwards there was an amateur Pierrot entertainment, which proved so successful that it appears likely to become a feature of the socictv's functions. Songs were given by Mrs. Fagan, Miss Caldow, Mrs. Abbott, Mrs. Mason, Mr. Palliser, Mr. Campbell, and Mr. Rowe, and Mr. J. A. Mason made a comic stump speech, "On Strike." .

Messrs. Daigety and Co., Ltd., will hold a stock sale at Upper Hutt on Thursday, Juno 2. A stock sale will bo held by the Manawatu Auctioneers' Association on Thursday, June 2, at Palmerston North. Tho agricultural labour 'famine iii tho West of Canada continues, and it is estimated that 12,000 mon could find inimedi;>to employment in the three prairio provinces.
