The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) returned from the West Coast, via Christehurch, on Sunday. He left again last night for Christchurch. This morning he will receive " deputations and transact other official business, and in the afternoon will attend the Governor's levee. Sir Joseph expects to return to Wellington to-morrow. The Hon. J. A. Millai (Minister foi Bailways), who is at present in Dunedin, is expected to return to Wellington ion Wednesday or Thursday. The Hon. D. Buddo (Minister for Internal Affairs) leaves.on a visit to North Canterbury next Thursday. He has promised, to he present.'at the annual social.in connection, with the St. John Ambulance Association (Kaiapoi division) on Friday night. Hr. Buddo will bo absent from Wellington only a few days. '.. Word was received in ■ Wellington ■ yes--terday that the .Hon. R. H. J. Reeves, M.L.C., i≤ seriously ill at Nelson. His Btep-son, Dr. J. F. Clark, left for Neleon yesterday afternoon. ■Sir G. M. OTlorfce has been; reappointed a member of the Council of Auckland University College by. the Governor-in-Council. The Hon. Dr. Findlay delivered a political address at Kohukohu last night. Hβ will remain in the Hokianga district for a day or two, and return to Auckland about Thursday next.
. ■ The Hon. ■G. Fowlds, Minister for Education, who is 'at present at Rotorua, will address his constituents at Newton on' Thursday evening. It is understood that in the course of his remarks lie will state his attitude in regard to the Kny.vett case. The Very Rev. Dean Harper, of Christchurch, who has been to England on a tealth trip, returned by the Ruahine, ar- • riving yesterday, and will go on to Lyttelton to-night. He has quite regained his .usual health. ' ' Mdlle. Antonia Dolores has cabled from . San Francisco to Mr. H. N. Southwell that she'has altered the date of her departure. The distinguished singer left that city on May 21, and will travel to Sydney via Tahiti and New Zealand, arriving here on' June 21. Her first'concert will take place on Wednesday,' June 29, in Sydney. . Mi.T. W. Blennerhasset, for twentyone years manager for Messrs Hallenstein Bros'. Wanganui business, was entertained by a gathering of business : men yesterday on the eve of tis departure for the Old Country,, and was , the recipient of several presentations. . Lieutenant-Colonel A. Bauchop, C.M.G., ■ Officer Commanding the_ Wellington District, is at present at Gisborne on ufhcial business. He is expected to return to Wellington this ovening. Mr. William Jack, for the past eight years accountant to the Wellington branch, of Messrs. Kempthorne, Prosser, and Co., has been appointed to succeed Mr. Robert Wood as local manager, and Mr. John DulF has been promoted to the position of accountant. Mr. Wood leaves Wellington on June 10 by the Ulimaroa for Sydney, where he will join the Malwa for London. Mr. H. Owen, eon of Mi. Owen, general manager for the Commercial Union \seurance Company in London, jvill bo a passenger for London by the Tongariro to-morrow. ■ ■ ■ Engineer-Lieutenant Leather, of H.M S Pioneer, will leave for London by the ffongariro to-morrow. Captain Ryley and Mr. Jenkinson, mas'ter and chief engineer of the steamer r Papanui (recently sold by the New Zealand shipping Company : at Melbourne) .will be passengers lor London by the Tongariro to-morrow. Mr. H. B. Reid, a, clerk in the Department of Agriculture, Commerce, and . lounsts, has been transferred to the ofhee of tho Magistrate's Court, New Plymouth, and will take up his new duties on Juno 1. _Mr. Rex Bridge, of the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, has been transferred to the branch at Eltham. He has for some years been closely identified with local amateur athletics and was also well known in boating circles. Prior to his departure on Saturday for Eltham he was the recipient of a handsome presentation from his fellow-officers. Mr. T. H Martyn, leaves ito-day for Auckland by the Main Trunk express. From Auckland he will return to Sydney. The late Mr. George Flyger, who died on tne Palmerston showgrounds on Saturday afternoon during the progress of a football match, had been in business as a tailor in Wangnuui for twenty years and was nlso well known in Feikling ami Wellington. Our Pnlmerston correspondent states tlint deceased was also well . known in vohmtcor circles, ho being a very good rifle-shot in his day. ' As a marksman he competed at a number of championship meetings. Tho transfer of Mr. H. B. Reid from the Department of 4R r ' c "lture, Commerce and Tourists, to the Justice Department, has been approved. Mr. Reid takes .up his duties in the office of the Magistrate's Court, New Plymouth, as from June 1. ,
