As a sequel to tlio Whitehaven liery disaster, 900 workers in the pit adjoining the ill-fated colliery havo decided to cease work for a fortnight, alleging the appearance of black-damp. [Black-damp is carbon-dioxide gas, which is found iu greater or less quantity in all collieries, being given off by many coals, either mixed with fire-damp or separately, or produced in various other ways, as by fires and by explosions •« fire-damp.]
