ALLEGEG SECRET COMMISSIONS.
CHEMISTS AND DOCTORS. (By TcleEraDh—Press Association.! Christchurcli, May 27. It is reported that "secret commissions" between doctors and chemists aro still in vogue in Christchurcli. Six or seven yeajs ago some chemists so strongly opposed the evil, that they induced tho late Mr. Seddon to take steps to put it down. He promised to introduce ,a measure into Parliament, but did not press it, through, saying tho publicity that had been given to the practice would probably abolish-it, and that the passing of legislation might bo regarded in the nature of a slur on all New Zealand' chemists. It would be like posting a no-tico on a house, "people addicted to drink not admitted as visitors here." Sir Joseph Ward also took the subject in hand, but his measure last year had to bo abandoned with many others at the end of the session. Most of the chemists hero now consistently .refuse to recognise ths practice, but it is stated that there are a few who I carry it on, and that there are doctors who mako "a good thing" out of it.
