ALLEGED SERIOUS ASSAULT.
'AT AUCKLAND

A respectable youna married woman from the Bay of Plenty. who is at present on a visit to her parents, was returning from t-own between G. 30 and 7 last evening. She passed the Supreme Court grounds and when within 100 yards of her parents' house she was approached by a man. A struggle ensued and the woman managed to freo herself. In her flight she met a young girl who stood by her and helped to attract the attention of two men, who were passing the end of the road. The latter immediately closed with a man indicated to them as the assailant and held him until a constable was summoned. Other passers assisted tho
voung woman, who was in a very distressed state, to her parents' home. She was very seriously bruised, aud had an abrasion on tho forehead. The man arrested gave the liamo of Alexander M'Mast-ers. He is a tall, well-built, well-dressed young mare about 24 years of age. He appeared at court this morning charged with assault with criminal intent, and was romanded.
