The match is fired uiider service conditions, and consists of two stages. In the first stage, "sighting and observation of fire," the distances aro 400 and 600 yards, 5 shots at each; targets, half figures, coloured to resemble tho landscape.. The second staga of the match is rapid fire, at 300 yards, brown and green figure targets. First prize, .the Empire Day Challenge Cup, £100 in money, and 41 silver'eommemorative medals; second prize, £50 in money, and 41 bronze commemorative medals; third, £25 in money and 41 commemorative medals.

There were no entries from New Zealand units. ,It has been found difficult to get regiments and battalions to enter teams of such size (40 men), for service matches of this kind.- At some future time, IVhen more regular and consistent attention is given in New Zealand to shooting under service conditions, th» Dominion may be represented.
