THE LATE DR. HOCKEN'S WILL.
GENEROUS BEQUESTS. (By Teleßraph—Press Association.) Dunedin, May 27. Probate of the will of the late Dr. Hocken' was granted by the Supremo Court to-day. The will and codicil devise everything to the executors upon trust to sell (subject, in each case, to the widow's life interest):
(1) 1900 shares in the National Insurance Company, 522 shares in tho Westport Coal Company, 2240 shares in the Standard Insurance Company, and 650 shares in tho Talisman Consolidated Mining Company for tho University of Otago.
(2) To sell 45 shares in th© Dunedin Stock Exchange Proprietary, 261 shares in the Mosgiel Woollen Company, and 227 shares in Whitcombe and Tombs on trust for the Diocesan Board, to be held to provide (out of income) for an increase in the stipend of the poorer Anglican clergy in the diocese of Dunedin. ' (3) To sell 6 debentures of the Fernhill Club Company, 166.shares in the National Bank of New Zealand on trust tor the Diocesaji Board, tho latter to apply tho income of same to tho Maori Mission Board. (4) 100 shares in the Port Chalmers. Gad Company, 250 shares in Mason, Struthers and Co., and 100 shares in the Junction Dredging Company (Victoria) on trust for the Salvation Army, income of same to be applied equally to the Maternity Home, Dunedin, Rescuo Home, Dunedin, and Children's Home, Middlemarch. (5) 75 shares in the Trustees and Executors Company, 250 shares in the Taupiri Coal Compajiy, 400 shares in tho Burnside Ceracoit Company, on trust for tho Public Art Gallery. (6) 100 shares in the Daruievirke Gas Company, 275 shares in the Phoenix Confectioner)' Company, on trust for the Trinity Methodist Church, Dhbedin. "^
The will provides that if any shares are sold under the power of Vail given to the trustee, the money realised is to be applied in the same manner as if the shares had not been sold. Inter alia, deceased'has also loft 100 guineas to his cook. After other bequests, Miss Hockcn receives the residue of tho estate. It is stated in the will that the testator is confident that tho citiswns of Dunedin will provide a yearly salary for the librarian in charge of the Hocken collection. The value of the estate was sworn as under £26,000.
