MUSICAL PUPILS.

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. _ There was a large attendance, consisting chiefly of young people, in the Sydney Street Schoolroom, last- night, on the occasion of the presentation "of the medals, 'prizes, and certificates awarded to the successful candidates in tho annual examinatiqns hold by the Trinity College of Music, London (Wellington Centre). Mr. J. G. W. Aitkan, who presided, said entries at the last examination were the most numerous ever received it. Wellington, and a high standard of excellence was attained by the candidates. The aTerage percentage of marks received In the practical senior section was 73, while that for the intermediate and junior was 71, and in the preparatory stage 76. The college had made.a new departure in tho classification of Its examinations, and instead of. four divisions, there would now be seven in the practical and five in tho theoretical. There bad been too big a jump 'from one 6tage to another in some instances, and the change would be welcomed by teachers and pupils. ■ Another chang-9 consisted in an extension of tho period for receiving entries for the examination. In future entries would be received up to one month before the date of the examination, but this innovation trould probably not operate this year, and teachers should therefore bo careful U, nominate candidates by Juno 1. The medals, prizes, and certificates were then presented by Mr. Aitken, and tho 'recipients were heartily applauded. Particulars of the awards have already been published. Pianoforte solos were played by Misses E. liayivard (senior medallist), Richards (intermediate medallist), and M. ShepheTd (junior medallist).
