Ministers of the Crown out of towtt to-day are:—Tho Prime Minister (Sir Joseuh Ward), who is at Greymouth; Hon? J. A. Millar, Dunediu; Hon. Dr. Findlay, Whangarei; Hon. T. Mackenzie, Balclutha; Hon. G. Fowlds, Auckland; Hon. A. Ngata, Ruatoki; and Hon. J. Carroll, Taumarnnui.
Mr. R. W. Richards (Town Clerk and City Engineer of Dunedin) has been notified that on his nomination Mr. W. H. Morton, A.M.I.C.E. (City Engineer, Wellington), and Mr. John Higgins, M.I.A.M.C.E. (County Engineer, Auckland), have been elected members of the Institute of Local Government Engineers of Australasia.
Mr. Robert Triggs, formerly secretary to Mr. Rotheram (when the latter was Chief Locomotive Engineer in the New Zealand Railway Department), and row Comptroller of Accounts in the West Australian Railway Department, has been directed by tho Governor-General to inquiro into certain alleged irregularities on the part of an employee in tha Postal Department of West Anstralia, It is Mr. Triggs's intention to conduct the inquiry in tho full' light of day, with the press, present.
Dr. Valintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals, is at present on a visit to Otago. Dr. P. Rossiter, health' officer at Samoa, arrived in Auckland last week and came on to Wellington. He left by the Mokoia last night on hia retaro to San Francisco. Mr. T. E. Taylor, M.P.. is a passenger by the Mararoa which left Lytbelr ton for Wellington last night. Mr. A. Donald, of tiso firm of Donald and Edinborough, Auckland, waa a passenger for the Islands by the Mokoia yesterday. Mr. G. H. Scales left for England last night' in the Mokoia, which connects at Papeete with the Mariposa' for San Francisco. Professor Bickerton, of Ohristchnrch, left Lyttolton' for Wellington by the Mararoa last night. Mr. C. Griffiths," the local fruit merchant, was a passenger by the Mokoia, which left for Papeete last-night. Mr. Griffitlis, after spending about three weeks in the Islands, will return via Auckland in the Taluno. Mr. P. Duffy, fruit merchant of San Francisco, who has been on a visit to the Dominion left on the return trip by the Mokoia yesterday. Mr. F. E. Nv Gaudin, of G. Kronfeld and Co., Auckland, was a passenger for Tahiti by the Mokoia last evening. Mr. W. D. Lysnar, Mayor of Gisborne, left for London via America in the Mokoia yesterday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Lysnar. Mr. A. J. Geary,' formerly of the City Council's tramway department, will commence his duties as town clerk of Feilding next week. Mr. C. D. Mackintosh and Mrs. Mackintosh were entertained by the Ramblers Football - Club and Ladies' Hockey Club at the New Century Hall last evening and presented with a silver tea service as a token of esteem. . Mr. Mackintosh has taken a very keen interest in the progress and affairs of both the clubs, of which ho is president.
Mr. J. D. Ritchie, secretary for Agriculture, and Mv. D. Cuddic, Dairy Commissioner, left by the Maori last night to attend tho Otago show at Duncdin.
Captain J. G. W. Dalryrfiplc, who has been acting-officer commanding tho Dominion Scouts since the corns was gazetted, has sent in his resignation of his appointment. Lieutenant Hastings, senior subaltern officer of the corps, will take over tho command. Lieutenant Hastings has been informed that he has passed his examination for his certificate of rank. / Tho under-mentioned acting-non-commissioned officers of E Squadron (Dominion Scouts), First Wellington, Mounted Regiment, kavo qualified for certificates of rank:—For sergeant.— Sergeant-Major Willis,' Sergeant Monag. ban. For corporal.—Quartormastoi Sergeant Tester, Corporals Berry, Clifford, Samlham, and Bczar. Captain J. E. Duigan,_ Engineer Staff Instructor, has successfully completed his examination for his Class military certificate.
