A CONGRESS OF BABIES.
It is said that tho world has never seen such a cosmopolitan assembly of babi-es as wore bruuijiit to tho Ideal Home Inhibition, opened last month, in London. Black and brown, yellow and white, from all parts of Europe, from China, Japan, and East and West Indies; in short, infants of all nations took part in the "Congress of Babies," which was an important feature of the show. Tho object of inviting children, with their parents and nurse, from foreign parts, was to enable a comparison to 1« made of surroundings and method.* of upbringing:, for, though whilst on exhibition each child was medically examined everv day. it was otherwise left to the charse of its own liuraj. Some of the English children in the "Congress" belonged to parents occupying high positions in tho professions. Judges, barristers, and Government officials allowed the small members of their families to appear. The receipts will be devoted to the maintenance of London creches. Besides babies, there were exhibits of house-building and furnishing. A solidly-built eight-roomed house was erected and equipped in ten days, and. furnished in latest style, with all labour-saving appliances. In the same class was shown a specimen cottage.
