Tho Federal Government has declined to accedo to Captain Scott's request to grant ,£IOOO towards the expenses' of hi 3 South Pole expedition. Mr. Bachelor, Minister for External Affairs, states that as the. Imperial Government has contributed <£20,000 to the expedition, and as Lieut, (now Sir Ernest) Shackleton did not receive help from the Imperial Government, the conditions of Captain Scott's expedition are not tho same as those of the Shackleton expedition (which the Commonwealth Government subsidised). *
