THE DANGEROUS FOURTH OF JULY.
» The Fourth of July in the United States is always a terrifying experience for quiet people, and the loss, of life and injury to limb through the discharge of defective firearms and the general debauch in explosives are commonly equal, on tho great day, to thoso in a moderately bloody battle. Now there is a chance for all this to be altered. Notice has been given from the Fire Department of New York City that it will not be permitted to retail fireworks between June 10 and July 10, and though this seems to leavo a considerable opportunity for early buying, there are few who can make careful arrangements for the wildfet excesses. It is thought that many or most of the large cities will follow Now York's example, and that a vital blow has been struck at the "oldfashioned Fourth."
