JOTTINGS FROM WANGANUI.
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.), Wanaanui, May 24. The Hon. J. Carroll is at present visiting Wanganui. He proceeds up the river in a day or two in order to make a personal inspection of the deforestation which is going on along the riverbank. On his return he will receive a deputation on the same subject. The ordinary time-tables of tho local schools were suspended to-day, and lessons in connection with Empire Day substituted. After listening to addresses on the subject from various speakers the scholars were given half-holiday.
