ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A PATHETIC CASE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, May 23. Florence Lydia Thomas, 35 years of age, wife of a blacksmith residing at Sydenham, died in -the hospital yesterday as the result of burns. - She was making jam on Wednesday morning and when leaning over the pot her apron caught fire. She rushed out of the house and when a neighbour found her the clothes had been almost burned off hei back. She was sent to the hospital. At the inquest tliis morning the hospital surgeon said the woman was confined after she was admitted. Death was due to shock. Thames, ' May 23. • Archibald Ladette, licensee of the Warwick Arms Hotel, Thames, was found drowned in the Kauaeracga River this morning. He rose early, and said ho expected visitors from Auckland, and intended to prepare. for them. His wife heard no sound, and instituted a search. No trace of Ladette was found about the. premises, but some hours later his body was. found in the river. .Ladette had not been in good health lately, and was under medical treatment. Gisborne, May 23. John Mackay Taylor, landlord of the 1 ! Patutahi Hotel, while driving home on, Saturday afternoon, was thrown from ; his trap. Bosval, while returning to his home at Stoney Creek on Saturday night, was thrown heavily from his bicycle, through collid- . iug with a. child, who ran across his path in Main Street.
