Sir Joseph Ward left last night for Christchurch, en route for Hokitika, where he will deliver a political address on Wednesday night.
Tho Hon. Or. Fowlds leaves on a visit to Auckland on Thursday.
The Hon. Dr. Findlay will leave for tho north this afternoon en route to Whangarei, where ho will deliver an address on the Native land question on Friday ovoning.
The Hon. J. A. Millar will leave Wellington to-morrow for Danedin. Ho will be Minister in attendance on Lord Plunket, who is paying his farewell visit to tho capital of Otago.
Mr. W. D. S. Macdonald, M.P. for Bay of .Plenty, isoovan v a visit to Wellington.
Mr. V. Meredith has been appointed manager of the New, Zealand Rugby team that visits Australia • shortly.
On Wednesday last at Tariki, Taranaki, the death of Mr. Georgo Thos. Bcngo occurred. He was the only son of Mr. E. T. Bongo, contractor, of Wellington. The deceased was a prominent member of tho Poneke Football Club, and also a inombor of the Trinity ■ Methodist Bible Class, Newtown. He was employed at Messrs. P. Haynian and Co.'s for several years prior to going to Taranaki.
Mr. T. Harle Giles, of Auckland, Conciliation Commissioner, who has been suffering from an attack of bronchitis, is progressing favourably towards recovery.
Mr. T. Bristol, of the New Plymouth postal staff, lias been transferred to Auckland. Prior to his departure Mr. Bristol was presented with a set of silver-backed hair brushes by his fellow-workmen. Mr. Bristol was well known in New Plymouth swimming circles..
The Christchurch Tramway Board today accepted the resignation of Mr. Scott Symington, engineer, who has been appointed engineer and manager to the Invcrcargill tramways. It was decided to .invite applications for tho position. Tho board also decided on a reorganisation echenio with respcct to the 6taff, and appointed Mr. F. Thompson (who has been secretary sinco the inception of .the board) to be general manager and secretary.—Press Association.
Mr. John Smith, a member of the City Council, has been confined to his bed recently with bronchitis, but is now convalescent.
Brigadier Bray, officer in charge of the social work of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, left for Christchurch last night.
Mr. G. Stemp, of Wanganui, received word on Thursday that his son Alex was drowned at Gladstone, Queensland, on May 3. Tho deceased was one of the original crew of tho New Zealand training vessel Amokuru, and, by his smartness anil good conduct, distinguished himself. Ho then joined tho Rippingham Grange, and was giving promise of success .in tho mercantile marine when his untimely end came at tho ago of eighteen years. It appears that deceased and a shipmate were fishing on the Gladstone Wharf when he was knocked into tho water by a truck, life being extinct when his body was recovered. Tho deceased's body was buried in tho Gladstone Cemetery.
Two residents of Greymouth—Mrs. Kirkwood and Mr. Evans—are entitled to the distinction of having lived in six reigns.
Mr. Stuart Richardson, Tramways Managor, is enjoying a brief holiday in the Nelson district.
